How should I help the Next Gen set goals or plan for further sessions?
Helping a Next Gen user set goals is one of the most impactful things you can do as an Aficionado. Here’s how you can support them effectively:
- Reflect back to their stage: Think about where you were at their age or stage in your journey. What were your questions, challenges, or blind spots? This can help you empathise and offer relevant guidance.
- Listen actively: Understand what the Next Gen hopes to achieve — whether it’s choosing a university, preparing an application, or understanding a profession.
- Encourage preparation: Suggest that they arrive at sessions with a clear idea of their goals or key questions. Point them to the Example Questions page to help with this.
- Help uncover gaps: Ask exploratory questions to identify areas the Next Gen may not have considered, such as work-life balance, the realities of a job or course, or long-term planning.
- Be realistic and honest: Help them turn vague ambitions into concrete, achievable steps — whether that’s drafting an application, shortlisting universities, or scheduling a follow-up session.
- Suggest follow-ups when useful: If you feel another session could help them better prepare or explore other angles, kindly encourage them to book again when ready.
Your goal isn’t to coach or mentor — it’s to share your perspective and guide the Next Gen in making clearer, more confident decisions by answering their questions.
